Who We Are:
"The Quilt Shop Ladies"
Located in Merrill, Oregon (20 miles SE of Klamath Falls, OR and on the road to Reno, NV) Tater Patch Quilts is truly a quilter’s oasis. Staying true to the local area’s agricultural roots, the store makes its home in a lovely agricultural community. Co-owners Diane McKoen & Robin King decided at church over coffee, they would open a quilt shop.
The store opened its doors in September of 1996, in its original location in downtown Merrill with only 500 bolts of fabric. In September of 2001, the shop had grown out of its space. We relocated down the street, a little out of town into an old farmhouse. Our current location is at 109 E. Front Street in downtown Merrill where we currently have over 4,000 bolts of various fabrics.
Tater Patch Quilts pride ourselves in having SOMETHING for EVERYONE! Ranging from children’s prints, flannels, Contemporary prints such as Amy Butler & Kaffe Fasset, to batiks and Western themes. We are MODA-HOLICS featuring one of the largest selections in Oregon! Our friendly staff will be more than happy to help you with whatever you may need. Looking for a kit? You have found the place. Pick from our ample pre-made selections or let us customize one just for you!
When you visit make sure you sign up for our newsletter, to keep you posted on all the exciting things going on at Tater Patch. We offer classes of varying levels and techniques to suit anyone’s interests. Tater Patch offers a great learning environment for beginning quilters to feel at ease instead of overwhelmed. Our classroom has all the space you need. It also offers experienced quilters with a place to share their projects and perfect their technique. If you are looking to get away, have some fun, and sew, we offer two quilting retreats a year. These retreats are a great way to have an exciting weekend and get something accomplished! Something unique we offer is Quilt Treats (mini retreats for just your group.) The group reserves the classroom and the Tater Patch Staff will teach a class or you can just utilize the great space to finish some of your UFO’s. Need lodging? We can assist with that also.
Tater Patch Quilts believes that it is very important to be a part of our community. We know that cancer effects so many people one-way or another. Each year Tater Patch Quilts sponsors a Breast Cancer Challenge. Each person who participates makes a wall hanging and a 12" quilt block. The blocks are made into a quilt, which is then raffled off to raise money for cancer research. The wall hangings are part of a traveling trunk show to promote breast health and cancer awareness. They also hang in the local cancer treatment center.
September 11th has touched everyone in one-way or another. After the tragedy struck, the women at Tater Patch were quick to respond with Operation Quilts for Troops. Colors of red, white, and blue were pieced together building quilts that fit onto the troop’s cots. This way they could carry a piece of home with them. Over 5,600 of these quilts, stitched with love, have been given to troops fighting overseas.
Tater Patch Quilts has something to offer everyone of different ages and backgrounds. Every level of quilting experience is welcome. The classes and retreats offered are a wonderful way to learn new techniques and meet new friends. If you’ve never experienced country quilting at Tater Patch Quilts, make sure you come soon! It will be worth your while. Oh, yes, and the coffee is always on!
